Last Friday IMSA released the full entry list for the upcoming 2014 Inaugural Tudor United Sportscar Championship. It is looking like it will be a blast to watch. Needless to say, I am excited; you should be too. Yes, I know Rennsport released one of these on Saturday, but I was mostly done, so I figured I'd finish it. Here is the breakdown:
Prototype (P)
This class combines the Daytona Prototype class of Grand-Am and the P2 class of ALMS and the Deltawing, and is the highest level of technology and speed on the track, now that the P1 class has been eliminated. There will be 17 different race cars competing in this class. Interestingly, last years ALMS P1 Champion Pickett Racing has submitted an entry for this class, but has not announced what car they will be competing in . UPDATE: Pickett will be racing a Nissan-powered Oreca 03 LMP car. Mazda will be returning to prototype racing with two new factory-backed diesel P2 cars in this category. By my count it appears that there will be 5 6 confirmed P2 cars, 10 DPs (although 4 of those will be only participating in the North American Endurance Championship events), and 1 DeltaWing. Here's the full list:

Prototype Challenge (PC)
This class has remained intact from the ALMS class structure. This is a spec class with all competitors driving the same Oreca FLM09 with a sealed Chevy V8 engine on Continental tires. By my count there will be 12 entries competing in this class. Many of these teams competed last year in this class, and will be fielding two cars. Here is the team list:

GT Le Mans (GTLM)
This class is essentially the same as the former ALMS GT class, and contains the fastest and most advanced GT cars. Manufacturers define this class with cars meeting the ACO's GTE specification. Quite possibly the car people are most excited to see from this class will be Corvette Racing's new C7.R Corvette, which has yet to be shown in its full race livery, but has been confirmed for entry. The BMW and SRT factory teams will be returning from last year, with two entries each, as will Risi Competizione and Team Falken Tire. Porsche North America will be joining the mix as well. There will be two NAEC entries from Aston Martin Racing and Krohn Racing. Here is the full list.

GT Daytona (GTD)
This class combines the former Grand-Am GT and GX classes with the former ALMS GT Challenge cars. Furthermore, cars meeting the FIA's Group GT3 specifications will be allowed entry into this class with some adjustments. This class is going to be huge, with 28 entries from 21 different teams. This will also be the most diverse class with seven different manufacturers represented, and one manufacturer TBA. There have been some interesting change ups that have happened in this class. Flying Lizard Racing and Paul Miller Racing, historically Porsche 911s teams, have made the swap to the Audi R8 LMS. Patrick Dempsey will be returning with two confirmed Porsche entries, and Turner Motorsport will return with a new Z4. There is also one team that is TBA, but has been registered for the full season. There will be two NAEC- only entrants, and SMP/ESM Racing will only be racing at Daytona. Here is the list:

I am deeply troubled there are no BOSS 302S mustangs in this new series...

Thanks for the write up. Pretty interesting, that's a lot of cars. Sad about P1, but will be interesting to see the Daytona prototypes next to the P2 cars.
Either way, as I said in a previous post... That's a lot of traffic for the field.

I'm worried about the performance differences in the Prototype class, but the GTLM and GTD title fights will be epic.

There are a few tracks that will NOT host all of the classes.

Do you know what's happening to the Continental Tire series?
In some ways, that was a lot more fun to watch than regular Grand-AM

Its still happening.
As of the 5th, there are 6 teams confirmed; I'll make a post outlining this as well.

What will be interesting about the DPs vs P2 cars is that the DPs should be faster in the straights, and the P2 cars will have better downforce and speed in the corners. This could definitely make for interesting racing. Also, there will be a couple of new-to-series chassis from Morgan/Nissan and Mazda as opposed to last year's ALMS P2 field of only HPD cars. Oreca is also in the process of developing a new closed canopy LMP2 car for 2015.
Also, as ncasolowork2 said, some tracks will not host all of the classes. I believe the race in Kansas will be only PC, IIRC.

Yep! Keep an eye out for an article by the end of the week where I'll give an update. It'll be the official support series of TUSCC. The official test days for Daytona will be January 3-4th.

Yeah, I hate to see P1 go, too. At a time when a ton of manufacturers are getting into it for WEC, TUSC ditches the class.

Yeah that will help if not all are at some tracks.
I am excited to see some DP vs P2 battles, but watching the 2013 season shows that traffic becomes a problem. battles between P cars and GT cars have caused quite a few runoffs and nudges already.
I'm almost thinking the DP cars will be a bit faster overall, but not sure it should be fun to watch.

Now that I think about it I think the DW will be the fastest in a straight line, P2s in the corner, and DPs should *ideally* be right in between. Honestly though, it'll be very hard to know until Daytona.

Unfortunately, they will not be showing up in GTD. The GX class was basically eliminated. But there is possibility they will be making a show in the Continental Series.

Ok let me see if I got this right, there is no more P1 class but the Delta Wing is still in. If they did not restrict the Delta Wing in any way or if it doesn't have any problems, the Delta Wing is going to clean everybody's clock as that car could hang with most (not all but most) of the old P1 cars. I love it.

Going back over this, something that popped into my head is CGRwFS (Chip Ganassi yada yada). Wondering who he'll tap for the #02 car for the NAEC events. Montoya and Dario are out, Joey Hand is a BMW driver, so I don't think we'll see him in a Ford powered car. I'm sure TK, Dixie, Jamie MacMurray, Briscoe, and Kimball will come up...again. Hmmm...

Well, the DeltaWing was very fast in straights, but struggled to keep up with the other P1 cars in the corners. It'll do much better in this series.

True story. However, if you look at last year, there were only 2 teams in that category. For great LMP action there's always the WEC

Yeah after I asked, I found a press release..... sad really... I'd like to see a class wherein the Camaro, M3, and Mustang, (Cuda in the not so distant future?) could all properly compete.
